About the Symposium

Since the first LPMO Symposium in Copenhagen in 2016, this series has served as a dedicated forum for researchers across disciplines to discuss the rapidly expanding research on lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase (LPMO).

Meetings in Marseille (2018), Oslo (2022), and York (2024) have showcased the progress in the field and helped to build an international community united by a shared interest in elucidating enzyme mechanisms, structure-function relationships, biological roles, and industrial applications.

The 5th LPMO Symposium, which will take place in Vienna on 19–20 November 2026, aims to continue this tradition by providing a forum for presenting the latest developments, encouraging scientific exchange, and strengthening collaborations within the global LPMO community. Ten years after the launch of the symposium series, LPMO research has evolved into a diverse and interdisciplinary field. This meeting aims to bring together contributions from all areas of LPMO research: from enzyme discovery and production, mechanistic and structural studies, biotechnological applications to emerging topics such as enzyme cooperation and novel biological functions.

Program

The symposium will begin on the morning of Thursday, 19 November 2026, and conclude on the evening of Friday, 20 November 2026. Participants may wish to arrive the day before and depart the day after the meeting to make the most of the scientific program, networking opportunities, and their stay in Vienna. The symposium will welcome contributions from all fields of LPMO research. Topics will include, but are not limited to:

  • N N Kinetics, substrates and activities
  • N N Computational enzymology
  • N N Physiological roles, evolution and classification
  • N N Recently discovered LPMOs
  • N N Methods and assays
  • N N Applications
  • A detailed program will be announced closer to the symposium.

Contributions

We warmly welcome contributions from all areas of LPMO research and encourage participants to share their latest findings and ideas with the community Authors submitting an abstract are kindly asked to indicate the topic that best matches their contribution and to specify in the email whether they prefer to be considered for an oral presentation or a poster presentation. Oral presentations will be selected by the organizing committee with the aim of creating a balanced and engaging scientific program. Poster presentations are open to all participants and provide an excellent opportunity for discussion and networking.

  • Information for speakers
Authors submitting an abstract for an oral presentation are kindly asked to indicate the topic that best matches their contribution. Oral presentations will be selected by the organizing committee with the aim of creating a balanced and engaging scientific program. Presentation times are as follows:
  • Overview lectures: 40 minutes (30 min presentation + 10 min discussion)
  • Oral research contributions: 30 minutes (20 min presentation + 10 min discussion)
  • Information for poster presenters
Posters should be mounted at the beginning of the conference and will remain on display throughout the symposium. Poster boards and mounting materials will be provided by the organizers.
  • The maximum poster size is A0 portrait orientation (84.1 × 118.9 cm)

At the beginning of each poster session, presenters will have the opportunity to briefly introduce their work in a speed talk. Further details regarding the format and timing of these speed talks will be provided in advance. Outstanding poster contributions will be recognized with a poster award, which will be presented during the closing session of the symposium.

Cancellations received by 31 October 2026 will be refunded in full. After this date, registration fees cannot normally be refunded. Cancellation requests must be submitted by email to the symposium organizers.

Participants who wish to contribute to the scientific program should note the following submission deadlines:
  • Oral presentation submissions: deadline 30 September 2026
  • Poster presentation submissions: deadline 31 October 2026
All submitted contributions will be reviewed by the organizing committee. When submitting an abstract by email, authors are kindly requested to indicate whether they wish to be considered for an oral or a poster presentation. Authors will be informed about the acceptance of their contribution after the review process has been completed.
Please note that registration is required for all participants, including invited speakers, oral presenters, poster presenters, and accompanying participants. If your oral or poster contribution is accepted, you must complete your registration as soon as you have received the acceptance notification.
The registration fee includes access to the scientific sessions, conference materials, coffee and lunch breaks, as well as the symposium reception. Participants are encouraged to register early, especially if they plan to submit a contribution.   • From Vienna International Airport
The easiest way is by train: Take the Intercity (IC) or Railjet (RJ/RJX) directly to Vienna Central Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof). Walk 5 minutes to CAPE 10.
  • Alternative train route
Take the S-Bahn (S7) or the City Airport Train (CAT) towards the city center. Get off at Wien Mitte (Landstraße) and transfer to the metro. From there, take the U1 metro line (red line) towards Oberlaa. Get off at Vienna Central Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof). Walk approximately 5 minutes to CAPE 10.
  • By taxi
Take a direct taxi or ride service (approx. 20-25 minutes, depending on traffic)
Getting Around Vienna
Public transport (metro, trams, buses) operated by Wiener Linien is efficient and easy to use. Tickets include single-ride options or 24/48/72-hour passes, which are valid on all public transport within the city. A separate ticket is required for travel between the airport and the city; this is not included in standard Vienna public transport tickets and can be purchased from ÖBB.
